Steve Jobs, We Thank You

After dinner it’s my 4-year-old’s TV time and when I turned it on, I read the headline on CNN: Apple’s Steve Jobs Dies.

Logan loves is iTouch.

“Wow!” I say.

“What is it Mommy?”

I wonder if I should tell him. We’ve already had many conversations about death, so why not?

“Steve Jobs died.”

“Who’s that?”

He made your phone.”

“Oh.” We both sit silently. He’s watching me and I’m watching CNN, though I can almost hear the wheels in his head … Read more ...

Ten Years After 9/11, Have We Forgotten An Important Lesson?

9/11/01. We all know what happened that day. Millions of us remember exactly where we were when the planes struck. And many of us have vowed to never forget the nearly 3,000 lives lost.

It’s been 10 years and I’m left wondering if we’ve forgotten something else that’s poignantly important: Unity.

Do you remember in the days after the attacks, how united we were? Strangers talked to you more, people seemed more compassionate and even the politicians stopped trading barbs.

I know that as a … Read more ...

An Over-Planned Birthday Bash

My oldest turned 4 the other day. Four years that he’s been with us and I look at him and marvel. I’m someone’s mom. That’s crazy.

What’s crazier is that Logan apparently thought he was turning 14. First thing in the morning, he whispers in my ear: “Can you tell? My voice is deeper now that I’m four.”

Excited about his banana cake.

Blink. Blink. What did he just say?

Logan stares at me, expecting an answer.

“Yes, you’re right!” I lie enthusiastically. Where Read more ...

Rockin’ at Chicago’s Half Marathon

We did it. Today, Hubby and I ran Chicago’s Rock n’ Roll half marathon. Our feet carried us 13.1 miles or over 230 football fields, or up and down Willis Tower about 16 times or … You get the idea. It was a long haul.

But we did it..

Our day started off at 4:15 a.m., after I’d hit the snooze button a couple times. We had stayed up too late the night before and loathed dragging our carcasses out of bed.

On the … Read more ...

Date Night with the Blue Hairs

I was so excited for the evening that I strapped on my 5 inch heels. It’s been awhile since mama put on those bad boys.

They're over a year old, but I still love 'em.

It was Parents Night Out at my daycare, where they stay open 2 hours later. You can bring other kids who aren’t students at La Petite Academy and they’ll look after them too. It’s cheaper than a babysitter and along with all the kiddie fun, they feed your munchkin.
