Have you ever heard a recording of yourself talking and then cringed? Wondering, do I really *sound* like that?

I think watching yourself on TV is kinda like that. You all know how I was chosen as one of BlogHer’s Voices of the Year honorees, well I’m now sharing with you the video of me reading my piece at the conference in Chicago.

I’ve only watched it once, and it was with Hubby and my lovely mother-in-law. While watching it I kept thinking, do I really make that face that often? (It’s the side-eye.) I remember what was going through my mind while reading my piece and so it was cool to step outside of myself and see what the crowd saw.

Here’s my piece, take a look and let me know what you think. It’s not too long and is suitable for work. 🙂

The YouTube video of my #VOTY13 reading at BlogHer — 7 Comments

  1. Ha not bad at all Melanie especially since it appears it may have been a first time address to a crowd? I may not have taken note of the “sideways glance” if you had not done so yourself. Unless one is a narcissist, most of us are the worst critics of ourselves.
You made note of my quilting “expertise” and I am the harshest critic of my own work and the first to laud all the other amazing quilters, like my friend Gale.
So, an articulate presentation of your subject, and congrats on the award.

    • Thanks for the compliment (and the comment!!) And you’re right, I should not have said anything about the sideways glance because no one would have picked it up otherwise, right? I have spoken publicly before, but not in front of a celeb like Queen Latifah. I still get the willies to know that she heard the words I created. Thanks again for stopping by and for your kind words. 🙂

  2. I was lucky enough to see you read this in person at BlogHer13! You did a fabulous job reading. It was my first introduction to your blog and I look forward to reading more about your life. 🙂

  3. I think you did great! And you have a lovely speaking voice! I think we are our own worst critics and you shouldn’t come down on yourself. A job well done for sure! 🙂

    • It’s true we are our own worst critics! Thanks for the compliment on the speaking voice, after the event one woman came up to me and said she could listen to me all day, which was so nice. It also got me thinking more about something my husband has been wanting me to do for a year: My own podcast. We’ll see after I get settled in our new home to see if I manage to figure that one out. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
