(Cue up the Beastie Boys.)

Hey ladiiieeesss!!!

It’s time to get dirty. (Mix in Christina Aguilera’s “Dirrty”) OK, enough of the music montage, you’ve heard me bellyache about my belly.

I’ve been working out, (yay!) eating right (double yay) and drinking less (boo!) The progress is slow, but slow and steady wins the race, right? Speaking of races, I’ve signed up for the Pretty Muddy Women’s Run.

It’s only for us girls and it’s 5K of outdoor terrain featuring architectural obstacles and, well of course lots o’ MUD! It’s not a timed event, so it’s not really competitive and you can walk around the obstacles you don’t want to do. It’s just about having fun.

I’ve never done one of these before because frankly when hearing about them, they kinda gave me the heebeejeebees. (All that mud in my hair? Ew! What if I get mud in my ear? Blech!) But, enough of being all prissy. I mean I’ve been covered in poop enough times that mud will be an upgrade. But admittedly, I checked, we’ll be able to hose off afterward.

What really got me interested in it was the thought that this is something girls can do together that’s fun and healthy. Normally when I meet up with my girls, it’s over food and copious amounts of wine and martinis. Granted, this is awesome. But when I’m desperate to lose weight, it’s not.

A few of my friends and I had been brainstorming about non-food related dates such as rollerblading along the lakefront, going to museums, or on a bike ride. Then I caught wind of this event and thought, how perfect!

So, if you’re reading this, I consider you one of my girls and was curious, if you wanted to join me and get a little dirty? (fade in Miss Aguilera again.) It’s on Saturday, Sept. 15 in Orland Park, Ill.

You can register here. And because you know me, enter the promotional code: ShesWriteDisc to get a $10 discount. I’ve signed up for the 9:15 a.m. wave, who’s with me?

Pretty Muddy: Getting Down And Dirty To Lose Weight — 5 Comments

  1. okay, you’ve got my interest. I have not signed up yet for the stair thing so I don’t know if I am trust worthy.

    • Sign up! Sign up! You need to get on that stair thing. The registration officially “closed” for the training, but they ALWAYS bend the rules and it’s not like they’re going to turn down your money. Training starts this Saturday I believe. SIGN UP!

  2. Checking with the hubby on the schedule but I’m pretty sure I’ll do the muddy run with you! I missed the Muddy Buddy race for the first time in 3 years this year so this will give me my fix! You bring up a great point though about trying to organize get togethers around things other than fried food and alcohol. I love the bike ride along the lakefront idea! You are welcome to come try Hot Yoga with me anytime! There is an 8:15 p.m. class I go to after the boys are in bed.
