The email came Monday night. School was canceled due to snow that had not yet begin to fall.  But the forecasters had been predicting Ice-Age proportions of snow, tossing around the once-funny, but now trite names like Snowpocalypse and Snowmageddon.

I was excited to tell Logan the news, he wouldn’t have to go to kindergarten tomorrow. Once he heard school was canceled, tears of sadness filled his eyes. I was baffled. I can’t win with this kid. He complains about going to school, now he’s crying about not. I gave him a hug and reassured him that tomorrow would be a blast.

The next morning I woke up excited for the day. Since it was a snow day for Logan, it was also one for me and little Ethan. I had canceled our nanny for the day and smiled at the thought of what was on deck for us all.

I got up, exercised, took a shower and put on fresh pajamas. For fun, I had the kids take a bath to play in the water, the one hour later, my little raisins were ready to come out. Then it was their turn to put on fresh pajamas. We played, played and then played some more.

Ethan thinks outside of the box, but plays in it.

And what’s a snow day without going out in the snow? After 30 minutes of putting on regular clothes, snowpants, snow boots, gloves, hats, coats, all three of us Michelin men were ready for the elements. We were first greeted by a snow plow clearing our driveway.

Clearing our driveway.

Then we watched him clear the neighbor’s. Hard to tell from this angle, but thanks to the snow plow, the snow was piled 4 feet high. The snow was very deep everywhere, poor Ethan struggled to wade through, as he was thigh-deep in some parts.

Once inside, I made hot chocolate with marshmallows and Logan agreed, there was no need for tears, the day had been a blast.
