Portland has well-earned its reputation for being one of the greenest cities in the U.S.  Since moving here, I’m impressed by how pervasive all of the recycling efforts, not to mention an abundance of electric cars and creative ways of reusing items.

In Portland a trash bin rarely stands alone. It's usually accompanied by a recycling bin, or like here, a compost bin.

We’ve stepped up our recycling efforts here and I do a much better job at remembering to take my reusable grocery bags into the store with me. Hey, every little bit helps, right?

I’m happy to announce a new venture at She’sWrite. I’m participating in the Make A Green Gesture initiative. What that means is the folks over at Green Gestures are going to plant a tree in honor of my blog! In partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, the She’sWrite tree will be put in a forest where it can absorb carbon dioxide, helping to reduce my blog’s carbon footprint for the next 50 years. I’m not sure that my blog will be around in 50 years, but that’s beside the point.

If you’re interested in having a tree planted in honor of your blog, check out their site here.

Thanks again Green Gestures for reaching out to me!
