What do Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and I have in common?

No, I’m not about to make an appearance in a Set It Off sequel. (I don’t even know that there is one.) It’s that we’re all excited for today because it’s the start of Queen Latifah’s new talk show.

“My show is going to be an entertaining and eclectic mix of interviews with real people as well as celebrities — people who are fun and fascinating,” Latifah said in a statement. “It will be a program you can tune into to feel good every day. I also think it will inspire people who watch it. I know I’ve certainly been inspired by a lot of the stories we plan to share.”

The co-producers of the show are Latifah’s Flavor Unit, Sony TV and Will and Jada Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment. It is a good fit because Latifah and Will Smith have known each other since he was the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Also there was that film I mentioned earlier called Set it Off with Latifah and Jada. (And we can’t forget that it also had Vivica A. Fox and Kimberly Elise.)

“We have a long history, and I definitely feel like we grew up together in Hollywood,” Latifah said of the Smiths.

There’s a few other big names that have contributed to the show. The oh-so-sexy rocker extraordinaire Lenny Kravitz designed her set.

“The set reflects Latifah’s personality and spirit and will be an inviting, comfortable space for her guests, studio audience and viewers,” Kravitz said. “I never thought of designing for television but, I suppose growing up in a TV studio watching my mother has come full circle.”

Latifah also got some sage advice from some of her buddies who have their own shows.

“I have talked to a number of different friends who have done it, including Ellen, Oprah and Jimmy Fallon,” she said. “They’ve all been terrifically helpful and encouraging.”

I’ve always been a Queen Latifah fan and since meeting her at BlogHer and seeing her in action left a mark on me. She’s every bit of badass awesome as you think she is and then some.

Not to mention, don’t tell anyone because there’s nothing official, but her people are talking with my people me about some interesting blogging opportunities. (Eeeks!) So yeah, I’m excited about this show, what I hope it will bring to daytime TV and honestly, it’s just good to see hard-working, talented women of color be exceedingly successful.

Queen Latifah launches her new TV talk show — 2 Comments

    • Hello!!! Thanks for stopping by. Don’t you just love SITS? 🙂 Also, I hope you do check out the show, I liked yesterday’s, it’s a nice mix of regular talk show celeb stuff, but then there’s doo-gooding reality TV type segments like making over a classroom and other philanthropic ventures that I just eat up. Also, her willingness to make a fool out of herself all in the name of fun is there too, which always make me smile. 🙂
