Wordless Wednesday: A Big Tree
This large bur oak is believed to date back to 1660. It stands 90 feet tall and its impressive canopy spans 130 feet. It’s considered one of the largest and oldest trees in Missouri and though it’s survived a 9 foot flood, a tornado, drought and lightning strikes, it is dying. Arborists have been working to slow the death of Big Tree.
Okay that is one freaking awesome super big tree! And now I’m sad to hear that it’s dying 🙁 Poor big tree.
Yes poor tree, but it’s lived a very long and full life. Not sure this is any consolation, but tree experts say it’ll take awhile before it dies entirely, it’s just in its decline. Now that I write that I see there’s no way it can be a consolation… Well, I tried? :-s
It’s also commonly referred to as the largest Burr Oak in North America! I LOVE BIG TREE!
Next time we come to town we’ll have to take Logan there at night. He fell asleep on the way there, so he missed the whole thing. 🙁 But good reason to go back! 🙂
